Tour description

The striking pyramid of the Flüela Schwarzhorn is my favourite mountain: my first 3,000-metre peak, which I climbed over 50 years ago, back then through a hip-deep snowfield below the summit.

On Saturday, we’ll hike along well-maintained paths to the idyllic Jöri-lakes between the Flüela and Vereina valleys. From the beautiful lake plateau at 2,500 metres, the circular route takes us back to the Flüela Pass, where we’ll be staying in twin rooms at the Hospitz. After dinner, it’s best to go to bed early, as we’ll be up at two in the morning. We can have a light snack and a drink, and at around three o’clock we’ll set off on our adventurous tour by the light of the full moon.

Starting with a short stretch along the pass road, we climb across alpine meadows and along well-maintained paths up to the scree slopes below the mountain pyramid. From the Schwarzhorafurgga, the route takes us over loose scree fields to the summit. With every bend, the horizon opens up; to the east, the dawn colours the sky – until sunrise bathes the mountain landscape in pastel hues.

The descent takes us past a small glacial lake, over rough boulder fields to the Fuorcla Radönt and finally to the Grialetsch Hut. Here we take a longer break for breakfast before descending into the Dischma Valley and catching the PostBus back to Davos from Dürrboden.

By public transport, as the start/end points are not the same | depending on the participants' place of residence, at Landquart or Davos railway station.

Return journey from Dürrboden at 14:10, arriving at Zurich main station 16:53; later connections at 15:25, arriving in Zurich 18:22.
