Tour description

The striking pyramid of the Flüela Schwarzhorn is my favourite mountain: my first 3,000-metre peak, which I climbed over 50 years ago, at that time still through a waist-deep snowfield below the summit.

On Saturday, we hike up the long Dischma Valley on good paths and without haste. The Dischma is the most barren of the three Davos side valleys. The last hamlet is called Dürrboden, where we stop for a drink on the terrace of the simple pub. From here, the path climbs more steeply to the Grialetsch hut. After dinner, it is advisable to go to bed early – we have a room to ourselves. We get up at two in the morning, have a quick bite to eat and drink, and set off at around three o'clock in the light of the full moon.

First on good paths, then scrambling through boulder fields, we reach Fuorcla Radönt. We then cross a wide depression with a small lake and arrive at the usual ascent route. With every bend, the horizon opens up, the dawn colours the sky in the east – until the sunrise bathes the mountains in pastel colours.

The descent to the Flüela Pass is short and easy. We fortify ourselves at the hospice and, as soon as the sun has warmed the rocks, a dip or a whole day of swimming at Lai da la Scotta beckons – depending on the weather and our mood.

Arrival & meeting point
By public transport, as the start/end points are not the same | depending on the participants' place of residence, at Landquart or Davos railway station.

End
As desired: Sunday Flüela Ospiz from 12:30 / arrival Zurich HB 15:22, later connections every 2 hours.
