THREE CANTONS, THREE DAYS – EXPERIENCE NATURE, STAY ACTIVE
Tour description
Day 1: We’ll meet in Appenzell. After a short tour of the main town of Appenzell Innerrhoden, we’ll hike over the Himmelberg – enjoying stunning views of the Alpstein and Lake Constance and continue via the Hundwiler Höhi to our first lodging in Appenzell Ausserrhoden. There, a delicious dinner and an overnight stay await us in one of the lovingly renovated rooms of a detached Appenzell farmhouse (350 years old). A hot tub and/or a cold outdoor bath are available for us. We’ll end the day by the fire pit.
Day 2: In the morning, we take a leisurely walk to the nearest train station. A short ride takes us to the PostBus, which whisks us up to the Schwägalp Pass. There, an impressive canyon landscape – the «Grand Canyon of Eastern Switzerland» – awaits us. We hike to Ennetbühl via the Hinderfallenchopf, with views of the Necker and Luterental valleys. From there, the PostBus takes us to the chairlift at Alp Sellamatt in Toggenburg, where we’ll have dinner and spend the night at the Berghotel Alp Sellamatt.
Day 3: We make a steady ascent through pastures and along narrow trails to the Vordere Selunalp. The Churfirsten come into close view, while across the valley the landscape opens up, with the Säntis serving as a striking landmark in the Alpstein. We continue on to a mysterious karst cave. Crossing the Tritt pass, we hike past the Leistchamm toward Arvenbüel above Amden and wrap up our three-day hike with some refreshments. Afterward, we take the local bus down to the valley to the train station.
