On the final two-day hike, we climb up to a remote alp high above the Obersee.

Tour description

This hike is the conclusion of a series of five themed hikes in May 2024 - with each hike standing on its own. The legends collected by Kaspar Freuler and Fridolin Hauser and published in 1952 do not follow any "internal logic"; but rather scenically varied paths along which interesting natural phenomena and legendary motifs can be discovered and told.

On this 2-day hike on 25/26 May, we will take the mountain taxi up to the Obersee, hike to the Vorauen and then, depending on the weather, climb up through the Grappliwald: either to the Gumen, if the snow has already melted, or directly to the Rautialp with its self-catering hut. There we cook our own dinner, check what we've packed in our rucksacks - and spend the night by the campfire under a full moon and listening to ghost stories from the world of Glarus legends.

On the second day, we hike on a good path over the Längenegg Pass and along the high trail to Richisau - or we extend the tour with a rewarding loop through a flat, hidden high valley to the Schiiterböden. From this small pass, we descend a steep 900 metres to the Klöntalersee lake and the Postbus stop.

In 2022, Baeschlin Verlag republished the collected legends of the Glarus region, with magical photographs by Urs Bolz. The book "Glarner Sagen" can be ordered for CHF 29.80 directly from the Baeschlin Verlag shop.

This hike is a 2-day tour to a self-catering hut - technically medium, but a certain robustness is required.
